Food Supply Chain Problem in Numbers

80 million tons

Americans waste 35% of the food produced or imported in the U.S. every year, which is approximately 80,000,000 tons. 54,200,000 tons go to landfill/incineration; or left on the field to rot.

270 metric tons

Producing this food wasted consumes 20% of fresh water and cropland; and generates around 270 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually, the same as 58,000,000 cars.

10.5% of American households faced food insecurity in 2019 and 2020, both before and after the pandemic began.

Only 5% of U.S food waste are getting composted. In facilitating fast neighborhood composting, we can generate new income sources for small, beginning, veteran, and socially disadvantaged farmers and create new market opportunities for value-added products, creating training programs, strengthening regional and local food system infrastructure, developing healthy habits and enhance mental physical wellbeing.
